Some travellers want the desert evening without the activity programme that usually comes bolted onto it. This is that evening: you are collected from your hotel in the late afternoon, driven out to the Agafay desert for the sunset, and sit down to dinner in a camp under the open sky.
Agafay is not sand. It is a landscape of pale stone hills and dry riverbeds thirty-odd kilometres from Marrakech, with the High Atlas on the horizon — which is why the sunset here is worth driving out for, and why the light lasts longer than it does in the city.
Dinner is Moroccan and served at the camp: salads, a main course cooked on site, and mint tea. Ask us about vegetarian, vegan or allergy requirements when you book and we pass them to the kitchen rather than promising a menu here.
After dinner there is time out at the camp with the lamps and the sky before the drive back to Marrakech. It suits couples, small groups of friends, travellers arriving on a late flight the next day, and anyone whose first evening in Morocco should not be spent in a restaurant with a car park.
