Descrição completa

Marrakech is one of the most photographed cities in Africa and one of the easiest to photograph badly. The light in the lanes is contrast-heavy, the best rooftops are private, and pointing a camera at a stranger's face is a fast way to a confrontation. This walk solves all three.

You go out at the hour the light works — early morning or late afternoon, agreed with you when you book — and your guide takes a route through the medina built around what a camera actually wants: doorways, arches, shafts of light in the covered souks, dyers' colours, and the geometry of tiled courtyards. On rooftops you get elevation over the lanes and, at the right hour, the smoke and movement of Jemaa el-Fnaa below.

Just as important is the etiquette. Your guide asks people before you photograph them and explains when the answer is going to be no, which is the difference between a portrait someone consented to and a snatched shot you will feel odd about later.

It works for any camera, including a phone. Tell us your level when you book — we brief the guide so a beginner gets composition help and an experienced photographer gets locations and timing rather than a tutorial.

Perguntas frequentes

Do I need a professional camera?

No. The walk works with a phone. What you are buying is the route, the timing and the access, not equipment.
