Toubkal and M'Goun in One Trip: How Many Days Do You Need?

Most 'two summit' trips in Morocco stay in one massif. Linking Toubkal and M'Goun is a different scale of journey.

Nine days, and what fills them

Our combination journey is nine days and eight nights. The first section is the classic Toubkal ascent from Imlil at 4,167 m. The middle is a long road transfer east across the Atlas. The final section walks out of the Aït Bougmez valley to the ridge of Ighil M'Goun at about 4,070 m, before the drive back to Marrakech.

Refuge, gîte and bivouac nights all appear across the journey, with the mountain team, cook and mules travelling with the group throughout.

Why it is not two summits in one massif

There is a shorter, cheaper way to climb two Moroccan peaks: stay inside the Toubkal massif and add a neighbouring summit over a few days. That is a genuinely good trip and we run it.

The combination journey does something different. It links the two highest massifs in the country, which are several hours' drive apart and feel nothing alike — busy trails and a refuge night on one side, empty pastoral walking on the other.

Where days can come out — and where they cannot

The itinerary can be shortened, within limits. Both summits need acclimatisation, so cutting days comes off the valley walking rather than the summit approaches. The transfer day cannot be removed at all; it is a drive, not a walking stage.

Tell us how many days you actually have and we will tell you what is realistic rather than compressing the trip until it stops working.

Which summit comes first

Normally Toubkal, because the approach is shorter and it sets up your acclimatisation for the longer M'Goun section. The running order is confirmed with your itinerary.

This is a demanding trip: two summits above 4,000 m inside one journey. We will discuss your recent hill walking honestly before accepting a date.

Veelgestelde vragen

Can I do both massifs in a week?
Not with both summits and honest acclimatisation. If you have a week, pick one massif and do it properly — either the six-day M'Goun trek or a Toubkal itinerary from Imlil.
What does it cost?
€1,020 per person for parties of five to seven, or €969 booking direct on this site. Other group sizes are quoted personally.
Is the transfer day wasted?
It is a driving day rather than a walking day, and it crosses the Atlas, so it is scenic. But plan for it as travel, not as trekking.
