Where to Stay Before and After a Mount Toubkal Trek
8 de setembro de 2026 · 8 min read

The night before decides your start time; the night after decides how the trip ends. A practical comparison of Marrakech, Imlil and a mountain stay.
The decision in one paragraph
Sleeping in Marrakech the night before means a 1.5-hour transfer eating the coolest part of your first walking day. Sleeping in the mountains means you start walking early, acclimatise slightly, and arrive at the trailhead rested. Afterwards, the reverse: a mountain night gives you a proper evening after coming off the hill, instead of a dusty drive straight into the medina.
Marrakech the night before
It works if you land late, if you want one comfortable night after a flight, or if the trek fee includes the transfer anyway. The cost is time: a pickup around dawn, then a road that climbs steadily to the valley.
It is the wrong choice if you are attempting a short two-day Toubkal itinerary, where the first day is already long.
Imlil and the valleys
Imlil sits at the road head below the Toubkal massif and is the practical base for almost every route on this side of the mountain. Staying up here means walnut trees, cold clean air, an early start without a transfer, and a first evening that already feels like the trek.
It is also where equipment is rented, so a mountain night is the natural moment to sort out boots, poles or a warm layer.
The night after matters more than people expect
Coming down from the refuge you will be tired, sunburnt and hungry in a way a city restaurant does not really fix. A mountain night afterwards turns the descent into part of the trip rather than the beginning of the journey home.
If you have a flight the following afternoon, this also removes the risk of an evening transfer after a long descent.
Afla Sky Views, our own mountain accommodation
Toubkal Views operates its own accommodation in the High Atlas, Afla Sky Views: a premium mountain stay designed with environmental considerations, which we describe as eco-conscious rather than certified, because we hold no environmental certification and will not imply one.
The rate we can state is the verified one: €110 in total for two people, breakfast and dinner included — a total, not a per-person price. Availability is confirmed by message; we do not show live availability here.
Perguntas frequentes
- Is accommodation included in a Toubkal trek?
- Each product page states exactly what its price includes. A stay at Afla Sky Views is only part of a trek where that trek's own page says so.
- How far is Imlil from Marrakech?
- Roughly an hour and a half by road, depending on traffic leaving the city and conditions on the valley road.
- Can I stay in the mountains without trekking?
- Yes. A mountain night, walks from the village and a day trip are a complete trip on their own.
