Marrakech in the morning, Agafay buggy tracks by midday. You are collected from your hotel or riad at around 09:30 and driven out to the stone desert south-west of the city, where the tarmac stops and the tracks start. After the briefing and the licence check you take the wheel yourself: one hour of driving across the gravel plateau, dry riverbeds and ridges, with the High Atlas on the horizon behind the dust.
One buggy carries two people, so you can swap between driver and passenger seat if you both hold a licence and are both 18 or over. Passengers travel from 13.
When the hour is up the day slows down. Lunch is traditional Moroccan food — Moroccan salad, a chicken and vegetable tagine, couscous, water and mint tea — and then the pool is yours before the transfer back into Marrakech. It is the reason people book this version rather than an evening camel ride: you drive, you eat properly, and you swim the dust off.
