Full description

Marrakech has too much light to see much overhead. Half an hour out in the Agafay hills, that changes — the camps sit in open stone country with no town nearby, and once the lamps are turned down the sky is the reason you came.

The evening starts with sunset over the hills, then dinner in the camp. Afterwards there is time outside by the fire, with the lamps low, to actually look up. Whether you see the Milky Way depends on the moon phase and the weather, and we will tell you honestly what the sky is likely to do around your date instead of promising it.

We do not run this as an astronomy lecture with equipment we have not verified. It is a desert evening organised so that stargazing is possible: a dark site, low lighting, a fire, warm blankets and time. If you want a telescope or a guide with astronomy training, ask us and we will tell you plainly whether we can arrange it for your date.

Bring a warm layer. Clear skies in the desert mean cold nights, in every season.

Good to know before you book

  • What you can see depends on the moon phase and the weather. A full moon washes out the fainter sky, and cloud ends the evening's stargazing entirely.
  • We do not promise the Milky Way or any specific object. Ask us near your date and we will tell you what the sky is doing.
  • It gets genuinely cold after sunset. Bring more warm clothing than the daytime temperature suggests.
  • Tell us in advance about dietary requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Will we see the Milky Way?

Sometimes — it depends on the season, the moon phase and the cloud. We will give you an honest read for your date rather than a promise.

Is there a telescope?

Not as standard. If you want one, ask us and we will tell you plainly whether we can arrange it for your date rather than including something we cannot guarantee.

How dark is it really?

Much darker than Marrakech. The camps sit in open stone desert with no nearby town, and the lamps are turned down after dinner.

Is this the same as the dinner and show evening?

No. The show evening has music and entertainment; this one keeps the lighting and the noise down so the sky is the point.

Can we stay overnight instead?

Yes — our Agafay retreat product includes a night in a desert tent. Ask us and we will quote it.
