Ourika Valley Half-Day Trip from Marrakech: What to Expect

A plain guide to the Ourika Valley half day from Marrakech — the order of the trip, what is included, who it suits and when to choose the full day instead.
Short answer: the Ourika Valley half-day trip takes you from your Marrakech hotel or riad into the Ourika valley and back the same morning or afternoon. You visit one Berber village with a local guide, have mint tea with a view over the valley, and can add an optional gentle walk. There is no climbing. Booked directly, it costs €28.50 per person (public rate €30).
What the half day actually is
Ourika is the closest real mountain landscape to Marrakech. The half-day version is built for travellers who want to see the Atlas foothills without giving up a whole day of their stay.
It is deliberately simple: one valley, one village, one household. You do not drive on to the far end of the valley, and there is no chain of souvenir stops.
How the half day runs
The order below is how the trip is planned. Exact times are agreed with you for your hotel and date — we do not publish a fixed hour.
- Pickup. We collect you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, morning or afternoon, at the window agreed with you.
- Out of the city. You drive south along the Ourika river as the flat plain turns into red valley walls.
- Berber village visit. With your guide you walk into a village and see how houses are built into the slope and how water is channelled to the terraces.
- Mint tea. You sit down for tea with a family, looking out over the valley.
- Optional short walk. A gentle path along the river or terraces, only if your group wants it.
- Return. You are driven back to your accommodation in Marrakech.
Weather can affect valley roads, so your guide may adjust the stops on the day.
What is included — and what is not
Included
- Round-trip transport from Marrakech
- Driver for the half day
- Local Berber guide in the valley
- Mint tea during the village visit
Not included
- Lunch (we can stop at a river café or arrange a valley lunch if you ask in advance)
- Personal expenses, souvenirs and extra drinks
- Entrance to any optional site
- Gratuities and travel insurance
Who this trip suits
- Travellers with only a few days in Marrakech who do not want to spend a full day on one excursion.
- Anyone who wants the valley and village life rather than a hike.
- Older travellers and families with small children — the walking is short and there is a seated tea stop.
Who should choose something else
- You want the waterfalls. The seven waterfalls of Setti Fatma are not part of this trip. Choose the full-day Ourika Valley and Setti Fatma waterfalls trip, which includes a guided 30–45 minute scramble to the first waterfall.
- You want several valleys in one day. The Atlas Mountains 3 Valleys day trip is a full day across three separate valleys.
- You want real mountain walking. Look at a guided walk from Imlil, such as the Imlil valley Berber villages guided walk.
Half day vs full day in Ourika
| Half-day trip | Full day with Setti Fatma | |

| Waterfalls | No | Yes, first of the seven |
| Lunch | Not included | Not included (riverside café) |
| Direct price | €28.50 per person | €38.48 per person |
Practical planning
- Clothes. The valley is cooler than Marrakech, especially in the morning and after rain. Bring a light layer for the drive back.
- Shoes. Comfortable walking shoes are enough; there is no scramble.
- Sun. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Cash. Dirhams for personal purchases or a river café.
- Photographs. Village visits are with real households — please ask before photographing people.
Private or small group?
