This High Atlas Mountains day trip from Marrakech offers a straightforward way to explore the mountain landscapes if you only have one day to spare. This excursion suits travellers who want to experience rural Morocco and visit traditional mountain communities without embarking on a multi-day trek. You will travel south from the city to explore three distinct valleys including Moulay Brahim, Asni, and Imlil. Your journey is fully supported by an English-speaking driver-guide with pickup and drop-off directly at your accommodation.
Your morning begins with a drive along the Ourika road to the Kik plateau viewpoint for a panoramic outlook over the High Atlas range. From there, you will travel through the Moulay Brahim gorge and pass the village of Asni. Along the route, you will stop to visit a women's argan oil cooperative to see how local products are made. You will also be invited into a traditional Berber home to share mint tea, bread, olive oil, and honey with a local family.
Next, you reach the mountain village of Imlil at the foot of Mount Toubkal, where a local walking guide leads you on an easy one-hour walk. You will stroll through terraced fields and walnut orchards to experience the local agricultural lifestyle up close. After your walk, you will have free time to enjoy lunch on a terrace overlooking the river. On your return journey to Marrakech, you have the option to add a short camel ride.
This day trip is run as a small group or private experience, allowing you to travel at a comfortable pace. Travel is provided in air-conditioned transport, and bottled water is supplied for your journey. The tour is conducted in English, French, or Spanish to suit your language preference. The itinerary lasts nine hours in total, starting with pickup at 08:30 and returning you to the city by 17:30.
