Day Hikes from Imlil (Without Climbing Toubkal)
You do not have to climb 4,167 m to have a great day in the Atlas. Some of the best walking starts and ends in Imlil.
Can you hike near Imlil without doing Toubkal?
Absolutely — and for many visitors it is the better trip. Imlil sits at around 1,740 m with paths radiating in every direction: terraced villages, walnut groves, irrigation channels, mule tracks and passes with views over the whole massif. None of it requires altitude experience.

Which is best for a first visit?
Imlil to Aroumd. It is short, beautiful, and takes you from a working trailhead village into an older stone village built above a boulder-strewn riverbed. Add tea on a terrace and you have the essence of the valley in half a morning.
What about the pass?
The Tizi Mzik crossing is the one that feels like mountain walking rather than village walking: sustained climbing, a proper pass, then the view down into the quieter Azzaden valley described in our Azzaden valley guide. It is also the first day of the 3-day Toubkal trek.
Do I need a guide for day walks?

What should I bring?
