Full description

Most Sahara tours give you one hurried night in the dunes. This one gives you two, in a camp with proper beds, private bathrooms and hot water, so the desert becomes somewhere you stay rather than somewhere you pass through.

The drive out follows the classic route: the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades hairpins and the Todra Gorge. You arrive at Erg Chebbi in the late afternoon for a camel ride onto the dunes.

The full desert day is yours: dune sunrise, the nomad country and dry lakes around Merzouga, the Gnawa musicians of Khamlia, and optional extras such as sandboarding or a 4x4 dune circuit. On day four you return to Marrakech over the Atlas.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades

The Atlas pass, the UNESCO kasbah, Ouarzazate and a night in the Dades Valley.

  2. Day 2

Dades → Todra → Merzouga camp

Gorges in the morning, then east to Erg Chebbi for a sunset camel ride, dinner and the first camp night.

  3. Day 3

    Full desert day

Dune sunrise, Khamlia Gnawa music, the Rissani area and the dry lakes; optional sandboarding or a 4x4 circuit. Second night at the camp.

  4. Day 4

    Merzouga → Marrakech

The long scenic drive west over the Atlas, with stops, arriving in Marrakech in the evening.

Frequently asked questions

What makes this a luxury tour?

A private vehicle, two nights instead of one in the dunes, and an en-suite camp with proper beds, private bathrooms and hot water rather than a shared standard camp.

Can we fly back from Errachidia instead of driving?

Some travellers do. Tell us and we will price a version that ends in Merzouga with a transfer to the nearest airport.

Is Wi-Fi available in the desert?

Some camps offer it near the reception tent, but mobile signal in the dunes is limited. Treat it as an offline night.

Is this suitable for children?

Yes. Camel rides can be shortened and the camp is family friendly; tell us ages when you enquire.
