Full description

Most Toubkal itineraries squeeze the mountain into two days. This four-day version gives your body the time it actually needs, which is why our summit success rate on it is far higher than on the weekend version.

You start in Imlil at 1,740 m, walk in gently through walnut terraces and Berber hamlets, spend a night in a village gite and a night at the refuge below the peak, and only then go for the summit. The extra day also buys weather flexibility: if the morning is bad, we can move the summit push.

Your guide is a licensed High Atlas mountain guide, mules carry the main luggage, and a cook travels with the group so meals on the trail are hot Moroccan food rather than packet rations.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Marrakech → Imlil → Aroumd

Transfer to the trailhead, meet your guide and muleteers, and walk up to the village of Aroumd (1,900 m) for your first night in a Berber gite.

  2. Day 2

    Acclimatisation day

A loop walk to around 3,000 m above the Mizane valley, returning to sleep low. This is the day that makes the summit realistic.

  3. Day 3

    Trek to the Toubkal refuge

5–6 hours past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to the refuge at 3,207 m. Early dinner and an early night.

  4. Day 4

    Summit and return

Pre-dawn start for the 4,167 m summit, then descend to Imlil for a late lunch and drive back to Marrakech.

  • From December to March the upper route is snow-covered and crampons and an ice axe are supplied with instruction.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the 2-day Toubkal trek?

The extra acclimatisation day. Two days works for hikers who are already fit and used to altitude; four days suits most travellers and dramatically improves the chance of reaching the top comfortably.

What is the maximum group size?

Twelve trekkers with two guides. Private departures for couples, families and small groups are available on any date.

How much does it cost?
