This High Atlas traverse trek from Marrakech is a challenging eight-day summer walking tour designed for experienced hikers who want a point-to-point crossing. You begin in Imlil and journey east over Toubkal and a chain of high passes, eventually dropping into the Ourika valley at Setti Fatma. This is a complete traverse rather than a base-camp trek, perfect if you want to experience remote valleys and villages that see few visitors.
Your journey starts with a transfer from Marrakech to Imlil and a short walk to your first village gite in Aroumd. You will climb the Mizane valley to the Toubkal refuge at 3,207 m before climbing to the summit at 4,167 m at dawn on the third day. From there, you descend and traverse east, crossing the Tizi n'Tachdirt pass at 3,172 m and walking through the greener hamlets of the Imenane valley.
The trek alternates between high passes above 3,000 m and long descents into inhabited valleys. You will walk down to the Setti Fatma waterfalls in the Ourika valley, spending your final morning exploring the falls before your transfer back to Marrakech. Along the route, your group will stay in a mix of Berber gites, refuges, and supported bivouacs under the care of a licensed mountain guide, a cook, and muleteers.
To ensure a smooth experience, your private or small group of up to 12 travellers is fully supported by our mountain team. The team includes a cook who prepares all mountain meals using produce shopped for along the way, alongside muleteers who handle your main luggage. Your federation-licensed mountain guide speaks English, French, Spanish, Berber, and Arabic, making communication easy throughout your journey.
This challenging trek is designed for those with good physical fitness and is operated during the warm summer season from May to October when the high passes are open. You will need to bring broken-in hiking boots with ankle support, a sleeping bag, and personal trekking clothing. Return private transport from your hotel in Marrakech is fully included to make your journey seamless.
