Seven days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Morocco. It is long enough to reach the real Sahara, spend a proper day in Fes rather than a rushed afternoon, and still get north to Chefchaouen, the blue mountain town that most short itineraries have to skip.
You travel south first over the Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou and the gorges, sleep in the dunes at Merzouga, then loop north through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forests to Fes. From Fes the road climbs into the Rif to Chefchaouen before returning through Volubilis and Meknes.
The final leg brings you back to Marrakech. Because everything is private you decide how long to linger anywhere; the itinerary below is the version we recommend, not a fixed timetable.
Day 1
Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades
Tizi n'Tichka, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley.
Day 2
Dades → Todra → Merzouga
Dades gorge, Todra cliffs, then east to Erg Chebbi for a sunset camel ride and a night in a desert camp.
Day 3
Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Fes
Dune sunrise, then north through Erfoud, the Ziz gorges, Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou to Fes.
Day 4
Fes
A free day in Fes. Optional licensed medina guide for the tanneries, Al-Qarawiyyin surroundings and the souks.
Day 5
Fes → Chefchaouen
Into the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen; afternoon and evening free to walk the blue lanes and the kasbah square.
Day 6
Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Marrakech side

Day 7
Return to Marrakech
Final drive back to Marrakech with viewpoint stops, arriving in the afternoon.
