This Marrakech to Fes 5-day desert tour offers a private, one-way crossing designed for travellers who want to see Morocco's changing landscapes without backtracking. Suiting private groups of one to seven people, this route takes you from the High Atlas mountains to the dunes of the Sahara before finishing in the northern imperial city of Fes. You will travel in your own private vehicle, enjoying a dedicated itinerary that connects the south and north of the country.
Your journey begins with a drive across the Tizi n'Tichka pass to the historic site of Ait Ben Haddou, moving through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses to reach the Dades Valley. The second day leads you through the steep Todra cliffs and eastwards into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a sunset camel ride and a night in a desert camp. You then spend a full day exploring the Sahara region, listening to Gnawa music in Khamlia village and visiting the Rissani area before spending a second night in the desert.
We arrange free pickup directly from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, providing a private air-conditioned vehicle with an experienced English-speaking driver. All fuel, tolls, road costs, and nightly accommodations are fully looked after, alongside daily breakfast and bottled water during your drives. With daily driving distances being quite long, the daily schedule is carefully paced to include viewpoints, stops, and walks to stretch your legs. Because Moroccan mornings and desert nights are cold while afternoons are hot, you should pack clothing layers and comfortable walking shoes. The trip concludes on the fifth day with a convenient drop-off at your chosen accommodation in Fes, leaving you ready to explore the historic medina.

Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
Tizi n'Tichka pass, a walk through Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses, arriving in the Dades Valley for the night.
Day 2
Dades → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
Morning in the Dades gorge, the Todra cliffs, lunch in the palm groves and the drive east. Sunset camel ride into Erg Chebbi and a night in a desert camp.
Day 3
Sahara day: dunes, villages and nomad country
Sunrise over the dunes, then a full day around Merzouga — Khamlia and its Gnawa music, the Rissani area and the dry lake plains — with a second night in the desert region.
Day 4
Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Fes region
North through the Ziz gorges and palm canyon, lunch in Midelt, then the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane before reaching Fes in the evening.
