Full description

Half of what makes the High Atlas special happens below 3,000 m: the terraced fields, the mosque calls echoing between valley walls, the tea you are handed in someone's front room. This five-day route spends three days there before going high.

You cross the Tizi Mzik pass into the Azzaden valley, follow the irrigation channels between hamlets, then climb steadily to the Toubkal refuge and summit on day four.

Because you gain altitude gradually, the summit day feels manageable for hikers who would find the two-day version brutal.

Marrakech → Imlil → Tizi Oussem

  4. Day 4

Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable as a first multi-day trek?

Yes. It is the itinerary we recommend most often to travellers who hike regularly at home but have never trekked at altitude.

How many hours a day do we walk?

Between 4 and 7 hours depending on the day, plus the longer summit day.

What if I do not want to summit?

You can stay at the refuge with a team member while the rest of the group goes up; tell your guide the evening before.
