Experience highlights

  • Jbel Toubkal, 4,167 m, the highest peak in North Africa
  • Ighil M'Goun, about 4,070 m, in the Central High Atlas
  • Two genuinely different massifs rather than two peaks in one cirque
  • Refuge, gîte and bivouac nights across the journey
  • Local mountain guides, cook and mule support throughout

Full description

Most 'two summit' itineraries in Morocco stay inside the Toubkal massif and add a neighbouring peak. This one does something different: it links the two highest massifs in the country, which are several hours' drive apart and feel nothing alike.

The first half is the classic Toubkal ascent from Imlil — busy trails, a refuge night, a pre-dawn summit at 4,167 m. Then you transfer east into the Central High Atlas, where the walking turns longer, emptier and more pastoral before the ridge to Ighil M'Goun at about 4,070 m.

It is a serious trip: two altitude summits inside one itinerary, with a long road transfer in the middle. We build the day count around your fitness and the time you have.

Itinerary

  1. Days 1–4

    Toubkal massif from Imlil

Transfer to Imlil, walk in through the Mizane valley, night at the refuge and the summit of Toubkal at 4,167 m, then descend.

  2. Day 5

    Transfer east

A long road day across the Atlas from the Imlil side to the Aït Bougmez valley, with a night in a village gîte.

  3. Days 6–8

    Aït Bougmez to M'Goun

Walk out of the valley to the high pastures, camp below the massif and climb the long ridge to Ighil M'Goun.

  4. Day 9

    Return to Marrakech

Descend to the road head and drive back to Marrakech.

Good to know before you book

  • This is the typical shape of the journey. Exact day splits, overnight stops and transfer timings are confirmed in writing with your quote.
  • Two summits above 4,000 m in one trip is demanding; we will discuss your recent hill-walking honestly before accepting a date.
  • The middle of the itinerary is a long road transfer, not a walking day.
  • The photographs on this page show our own Toubkal-massif operation. No image here is presented as M'Goun; region-specific photography is being added.

Booking with Toubkal Views

  • You book directly with our local Marrakech team — no booking platform in between.
  • Questions answered on WhatsApp before and during your trip.
  • Your hotel pickup point and time are confirmed with you in writing before the tour.
  • Everything included and not included is listed on this page before you enquire.

Why trek with Toubkal Views

More than 15 accredited guides

Our treks and tours are led by a network of over 15 accredited guides who live and work in Morocco, most of them from the valleys around Imlil and Marrakech.

Mountain equipment rental in Imlil

We have our own mountain-equipment rental shop in Imlil, so trekking and mountain gear is available to rent close to the start of many High Atlas routes. Rental is arranged separately and is never automatically included in a tour price.

Responsible mule welfare

Mules carry equipment on our High Atlas routes. We treat them as working partners whose care and condition are part of running a mountain trip properly.

SPANA cooperation in Imlil

We cooperate with SPANA's animal-welfare work in the Imlil area, which supports the working animals of the High Atlas.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from your Toubkal and Ouanoukrim trek?

That itinerary climbs two peaks inside the same Toubkal massif over a few days. This one links two separate mountain ranges with a long transfer between them, and takes roughly twice as long.

Can the trip be shortened?

Yes, within limits. Both summits need acclimatisation, so cutting days mainly comes off the valley walking rather than the summit approaches. Tell us your available days and we will tell you what is realistic.

Which summit comes first?

Normally Toubkal, because the approach is shorter and it sets up your acclimatisation for the longer M'Goun section. We confirm the running order with your itinerary.

Why can only groups of five to seven book online?

Nine days with two mountain teams, a long inter-range transfer, refuge, gîte and bivouac nights is our most cost-heavy itinerary. Between five and seven travellers the published €1,020 per person is honest; outside that range we quote the departure individually instead of publishing a rate we would have to revise. Send your dates and we reply in writing.

How long does the Toubkal & M'Goun Trek last?

This experience lasts 9 days / 8 nights (adjustable). The experience runs from Marrakech.
