Ait Ben Haddou is the most photographed ksar in Morocco: a stack of earthen houses and towers rising above the Ounila river, inhabited for centuries and listed by UNESCO since 1987. It is a four-hour drive south of Marrakech over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, which is why almost everyone sees it as part of a multi-day Sahara circuit. This is the private version for travellers who only have one day.
The road itself is a large part of the trip. You climb out of the Haouz plain into the High Atlas, cross the Tizi n'Tichka at over 2,000 m, and drop into the pre-Saharan south where the vegetation, the light and the architecture all change within an hour of driving.
The site is also the reason film crews keep coming back to Ouarzazate. In 2025 Christopher Nolan's production built temporary structures around the existing ramparts so the ksar could play the city of Troy in The Odyssey, released in July 2026 — the latest chapter in a filming history that also includes Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Game of Thrones.
We run this as a private trip only. The retail price is €130 per person, €123.50 per person when you book direct on this page, and the day is arranged around your group rather than a fixed coach schedule.

Yes. The ksar of Ait Ben Haddou stands in for the city of Troy in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, filmed in Morocco in 2025 and released in July 2026. Temporary structures were built around the existing ramparts for the production and have since been removed.
Roughly four hours each way over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, depending on the road, the season and how long you stop at the viewpoints.

Toubkal Views is run from Marrakech by a Moroccan team, not an overseas booking platform.
Your guide is from the region and knows the Agafay tracks, the Atlas valleys and the best light for photos.
Berber camps, mint tea, home-style tagine and music played by local musicians.
We collect you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech and bring you back at the end.
You talk to us directly before, during and after your trip — no call centre in between.
Tell us your dates, group and pace and we adapt the experience instead of selling a fixed package.
