This 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour via Merzouga offers a convenient way to travel between Morocco's imperial cities while exploring the Sahara. Designed for those who want to avoid repeating the long drive back to Marrakech, this route delivers a continuous one-way journey through changing landscapes. You will travel in air-conditioned transport with an experienced driver, making this trip suitable for small groups or private parties looking for an efficient desert experience.
Your journey begins with a morning pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad from around 07:00. You will cross the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, Ouarzazate, Skoura, and the Valley of Roses. Your first day concludes with an overnight stay in a hotel or guesthouse in the Dades Valley.
The second day takes you through the Dades hairpins and the Todra Gorge in the morning before you head east towards the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you will embark on a camel ride into the dunes at sunset, followed by dinner, Berber music, and a night in a Merzouga desert camp. Daily breakfast, dinners, and your camel ride are fully sorted as part of the tour.
On the final day, you can watch the sunrise over the dunes before heading north towards Fes. The drive leads you through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley palm canyon, Midelt, and the Middle Atlas cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane. You will arrive at your drop-off point in Fes in the evening, completing your trip with the Sahara on your shoes.
This tour is conducted in English, French, and Spanish, making it highly accessible. It requires some preparation, including bringing warm layers for the desert night and comfortable walking shoes. Tizi n'Tichka, the UNESCO kasbah, Ouarzazate, Skoura and the Valley of Roses, arriving in the Dades Valley for the night.
Day 2
Dades → Todra → Merzouga dunes
Dades hairpins and the Todra Gorge in the morning, then east to Erg Chebbi. Camel ride at sunset, dinner and a night in the camp.
Day 3
Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Fes
Dune sunrise, Erfoud, the Ziz gorges, Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane, reaching Fes in the evening.
