Full description

The standard three-day Merzouga tour loops back to Marrakech and spends the whole final day on the road you already drove. This version does not: after the desert you continue north to Fes, which saves a day and gets you to the second great imperial city with the Sahara still on your shoes.

Days one and two are the classic route — the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley, the Todra Gorge — before the road runs east to Erg Chebbi for a camel ride, dinner and a night in a Berber camp among the tall dunes.

Day three starts with sunrise over the dunes and then heads north through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley palm canyon, Midelt and the Middle Atlas cedar forests, arriving in Fes in the evening.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Tizi n'Tichka, the UNESCO kasbah, Ouarzazate, Skoura and the Valley of Roses, arriving in the Dades Valley for the night.

  2. Day 2

Dades → Todra → Merzouga dunes

Dades hairpins and the Todra Gorge in the morning, then east to Erg Chebbi. Camel ride at sunset, dinner and a night in the camp.

  3. Day 3

Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Fes

Dune sunrise, Erfoud, the Ziz gorges, Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane, reaching Fes in the evening.
