Winter turns the High Atlas into a snow range, and most travellers who want Toubkal in snow cannot give it a full expedition week. This is the short version: three days, one summit attempt, and the same licensed winter guiding as our longer programme.
You walk in from Imlil to a village gîte, climb to the Toubkal refuge at 3,207 m the next day, and start before dawn on day three for the 4,167 m summit in full winter kit before descending to Imlil and driving back to Marrakech.
What it does not have is spare time. There is no snow-skills training day, no second objective and no reserve day, which is exactly what the 8-day winter expedition exists to provide. If the weather closes in on your summit morning, the guide turns the group around and there is no second window inside three days.
Day 1
Marrakech → Imlil → village gîte
Private transfer to Imlil at 1,740 m, kit check with your guide, and the walk up to a Berber gîte in the valley for the night.
Day 2
Climb to the Toubkal refuge
Walk up the Mizane valley past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to the refuge at 3,207 m in winter conditions. Crampon fitting, briefing, early dinner.
Day 3
Summit attempt and return
Pre-dawn start for the 4,167 m summit on crampons with an ice axe, then descend to Imlil for a late lunch and the transfer to Marrakech.

Plan your private tripOur treks and tours are led by a network of over 15 accredited guides who live and work in Morocco, most of them from the valleys around Imlil and Marrakech.
We have our own mountain-equipment rental shop in Imlil, so trekking and mountain gear is available to rent close to the start of many High Atlas routes. Rental is arranged separately and is never automatically included in a tour price.
Mules carry equipment on our High Atlas routes. We treat them as working partners whose care and condition are part of running a mountain trip properly.
We cooperate with SPANA's animal-welfare work in the Imlil area, which supports the working animals of the High Atlas.

The 3-day is a single winter summit attempt with a gîte night and a refuge night. The 8-day expedition adds a dedicated snow-skills training day, several 3,000–4,000 m objectives and a reserve day for weather, and it supplies a helmet as well as crampons and ice axe. If your one week in Morocco is about the mountain, take the 8-day; if you have three days, take this.
Yes. The upper route is snow-covered, you walk on crampons with an ice axe, and cold, wind and shorter daylight all add to the day. It is not technical climbing, but it demands more than the summer route.
Crampons and an ice axe are supplied and your guide shows you how to use them before the summit day. Stiff mountaineering boots that take crampons are not included — you can bring your own or hire them in Imlil.
The guide turns the group around. Inside three days there is no reserve day, so a weathered-out summit morning means the attempt ends there; we will always tell you honestly on the day rather than push into unsafe ground.
One night in a family-run Berber gîte in the valley and one night at the Toubkal refuge at 3,207 m, which is dormitory accommodation with blankets.
Yes. Return private transport between your Marrakech hotel and Imlil is part of the price.
Both are available. It runs as a private departure for your group on your dates, or as a small group of up to twelve trekkers.
You can book online with a date and the number of travellers, and we then confirm the winter departure with you directly. If conditions or refuge space make your date impossible, we move it or refund it rather than run something unsafe.
This experience lasts 3 days / 2 nights. The experience runs from Marrakech.
Hotel pickup in Marrakech.
The price is €460 per person, or €437 when you book directly with us instead of through a booking platform. €460 per person, owner-approved winter rate. Winter departures are confirmed with you before payment is taken, because refuge space and snow conditions decide whether a date can run.
