Experience highlights

  • Guided valley walk from Imlil at the foot of Mount Toubkal
  • Amazigh villages, walnut terraces and mule paths
  • Lunch in the mountains
  • Local guide who lives and works in the valley
  • A realistic taste of what a Toubkal trek involves

Full description

Imlil sits at 1,740 m at the head of the Mizane valley, and it is where every Toubkal trek starts. You do not need to climb the mountain to see why people come: an hour up the valley from the village you are among walnut terraces, irrigation channels and hamlets built into the slope, with the Toubkal massif closing the view ahead.

This is a walking day, not a viewpoint stop. Your guide sets the pace to the group, explains what the terraces and the mule tracks are for, and gets you to a lunch table with a view rather than a roadside café.

It is also the honest way to test whether a multi-day Toubkal trek is for you before committing to one.

Frequently asked questions

Do we climb Mount Toubkal?

No. Toubkal is a multi-day trek from Imlil; this is a valley walking day at the foot of it. If you want the summit, look at our 2-day and 4-day Toubkal treks.

How hard is the walk?

Moderate. Expect a few hours on uneven paths with some climbing, at a pace your guide sets for the group.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, with a shortened route — tell us the ages when you enquire and the guide plans accordingly.

Can we combine it with a cooking class?

Yes. The Atlas Amazigh cooking day works in the same valleys; ask us and we will build the itinerary.
