Full description
The souks are not one market but a series of trade quarters, each historically dedicated to a craft: dyers, leather workers, metal beaters, woodturners, weavers. Once you can see that structure, shopping stops being a maze and becomes a route — which is exactly what this tour gives you.
Your guide takes you through the quarters that match what you actually want to buy. Rugs: how to tell hand-knotted from machine-made, what the different regional weaves are, and why the same size varies so much in price. Leather: how to check tanning and stitching. Lanterns, ceramics, spices, argan oil, silver: the same treatment — what quality looks like and what it should cost.
On bargaining, we are blunt with travellers. It is a normal conversation here rather than a battle, prices depend on quality as well as haggling, and your guide will tell you when a price is fair rather than pushing you into a purchase. We do not take you on a commission tour of shops that pay us — tell us what you are looking for and we build the route around that.
You are not obliged to buy anything. Plenty of travellers use this tour purely to understand the medina and come back on their own afterwards, which is a perfectly good outcome.
