Mount Toubkal in One Day: Sportive Summit Trek from Marrakech

In snow-free conditions, with a guide, and with strong current hill fitness: yes. Leaving Marrakech at 04:00, it means approximately five hours of ascent from Imlil to the 4,167 m summit and approximately two and a half hours of descent, all in the same day. It is the hardest way to do the mountain and it is not what we recommend to most travellers.

Yes. We depart from Marrakech and the transfer to Imlil and back is included. The walking itself begins in Imlil, at the head of the Mizane valley.

04:00. Your exact pickup point in Marrakech is confirmed in writing with your booking, and the drive up to Imlil takes approximately two hours.

Approximately five hours from Imlil to the summit. That is an approximate operational timing and not a guaranteed one — pace, breaks, conditions and your guide's decisions all affect it.

Approximately two and a half hours back down to Imlil, which makes roughly seven and a half hours of walking across the day. Again, approximate rather than guaranteed.

Very demanding. The walking is non-technical on the normal route, but the combination of vertical gain to 4,167 m, altitude and the length of the day — with no refuge night and no acclimatisation — is what makes it hard. If long steep hill days are not already normal for you, this format will not suit you.

Fit, sportive, experienced hikers who are comfortable with sustained uphill and downhill walking and specifically want the ascent and descent in a single day. Anyone else should take the 2-day Mount Toubkal trek.

Age 16 to 48. Age alone does not decide whether the day suits you: strong current hiking fitness is required as well, which is why we confirm suitability with you before accepting a date.

No. It is a summit attempt, weather and mountain conditions permitting. Your guide may stop the ascent or turn the group back whenever weather, mountain conditions, pace, fitness or safety make continuing inappropriate, and turning around is a normal outcome of this format.

Yes. Dinner in Imlil after the trek is included, before the transfer back to Marrakech. Breakfast, lunch and trail food during the day are not included.

Yes. The private option is €162 per person and your group walks alone with its own guide. The sportive group departure is €117 per person with a maximum of 12 participants. The route, the vertical gain and the chance of reaching the summit are identical.

The group turns back and descends. The guide's decision is final. You are booking a guided attempt, not a summit, so there is no partial refund tied to reaching the top.

Not in this one-day format. In winter Toubkal is a snow climb needing crampons, an ice axe and the judgement to use them, and we will not compress that into a single day. Our winter itineraries run over three days or longer.

The 2-day Mount Toubkal trek: the same mountain, the same route and the same guides, with the climb divided over two days and a night at the refuge at 3,207 m.

The sportive group departure is €117 per person and the private option is €162 per person. Booking direct with us applies our standard 5% direct saving, so €111.15 and €153.90 per person respectively. Accommodation, meals other than dinner in Imlil, and equipment rental are not included.

Emergency response support, including access to an intervention team and ambulance support, is available when required. An ambulance does not accompany the group on the mountain and we do not promise a response time.

Broken-in boots with grip, trekking poles, a warm layer and windproof, at least 3 litres of water, your own trail food, a headlamp and sun protection. Kit can be rented from our shop in Imlil.

The grade is very demanding — a fast ascent for strong hill walkers only and the highest point reached is 4,167 m.
