This hot air balloon flight from Marrakech offers a peaceful aerial perspective over the desert plains, palm groves, and traditional Berber villages north of the city at sunrise. Suitable for travellers looking to experience the Moroccan countryside from above, this experience combines an early morning flight with a traditional local breakfast. You can join the activity in English, French, or Spanish, choosing between a shared or private basket for your flight.
Your morning begins with a hotel or riad pickup at approximately 05:00, driving you out of the city to the launch field before dawn. Here, you can watch the ground crew inflate the balloons against the morning sky and receive a safety briefing from your licensed pilot. You then climb into the basket and lift off just as the sun clears the horizon, beginning a flight that lasts forty to forty-five minutes.
As you drift with the breeze, the morning light reveals dry riverbeds, argan and olive groves, kasbah ruins, and small Berber hamlets below. To one side, the High Atlas mountains glow in the sunrise, while Marrakech sits in the morning haze on the other. Your pilot manages the flight, which includes flight insurance, ensuring you can relax and take photos of the scenery.
After a soft landing, you are driven to a traditional Berber house to enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast. The spread includes local dishes like msemen and baghrir pancakes, amlou, honey, olive oil, eggs, bread from the wood oven, coffee, and mint tea. Before you board your transfer back to Marrakech, everyone receives a signed flight certificate to mark the occasion.
This four-hour experience is designed for comfort, requiring no technical skill or high fitness levels. You only need to wear closed shoes and warm layers for the cool early morning temperatures, and bring along a hat and a camera. The tour concludes with a direct transfer back to your accommodation, arriving around mid-morning to leave the rest of your day free.
