Full description

Souss-Massa National Park protects the coastline south of Agadir: a mix of dunes, argan steppe, wetlands and the estuary of the Massa river. It is one of the best birdwatching sites in Morocco and the last stronghold of the northern bald ibis.

The morning is spent in the park — the estuary, the reed beds and the coastal dunes — with time to walk quietly and look. Even without binoculars the landscape is worth the drive: Atlantic dunes on one side and argan country on the other.

In the afternoon we head inland to Tiznit, a nineteenth-century walled town famous for its silver jewellery, where you can walk the ramparts and the silver souk before the drive back to Agadir.

Good to know before you book

  • Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed; the northern bald ibis is present in the area but not on demand.
  • Bring binoculars — we do not provide them.
  • A specialist local nature guide can be arranged for an extra fee if you are a serious birdwatcher.
  • Walking in the park is flat and easy, but there is little shade.
  • Tiznit's silver souk is a genuine working market; bargaining is normal.

Frequently asked questions

Will we definitely see the bald ibis?

No. It is a wild bird in a protected area and sightings vary by season and luck. We will not promise wildlife we cannot guarantee.

Is this a guided nature tour?

The standard trip includes transport and free time in the park. A specialist birding guide can be added for an extra fee.

Is it good for families?

Yes — the walking is flat and Tiznit is compact. It is a long day in the vehicle for very small children.

Can we swap Tiznit for more time in the park?

On a private departure, yes. Just tell us when you book.
