Where to stay around Imlil: Imlil, Aroumd, Tamatert, Aït Souka, Mzik, Achain and Targa Imoula

Almost every booking confirmation in this valley says "Imlil". Quite a lot of them are not in Imlil. The valley holds a string of hamlets on both sides of the river and above the village, and the difference matters the moment a vehicle has to bring you and your bags to the door — or to the closest point it can reach. This page explains the geography, hamlet by hamlet.

The hamlets, and what changes in each

Imlil · 22 in our list

The valley floor village where the surfaced road from Marrakech, through Tahannaout and Asni, finally stops. Vehicles reach the village; the lanes climbing out of it are a mix of narrow tracks and footpaths, which is why 'in Imlil' does not automatically mean 'at the door'.

Aroumd · 7 in our list

Also written Armed or Around. The village on the terrace above Imlil on the way towards the Toubkal trail. The properties there that publish an approach describe walks of roughly twenty to thirty minutes up from Imlil centre — their own figures, not ours.

Tamatert · 8 in our list

A hamlet on the side of the valley towards the Tizi n'Tamatert pass. The valley road serves the area, but how close a vehicle gets to an individual house varies, so it is confirmed property by property rather than declared here.

Aït Souka · 2 in our list

A small hamlet a short way above Imlil village. The properties there publish a walk from Imlil centre, with a mule sent for luggage if they know your arrival time.

Mzik · 3 in our list

On the western side of the valley, near the Tizi Mzik path. Close to Imlil in distance, but the final approach to some houses is on foot.

Achain · 2 in our list

A hamlet on the slope above Imlil. Public listings for properties there describe a short uphill walk from the village centre.

Targa Imoula · 1 in our list

Lower in the valley, on the approach to Imlil rather than above it.

Around Imlil · 7 in our list

Our own honest category: properties recorded in the wider Imlil area where no reliable public source states the exact hamlet. We confirm the meeting point with the traveller instead of inventing a location.

Why the hamlet decides your arrival

A property on the valley floor is a normal drive-up arrival. A property on the shoulder above the village, or up in Aroumd, Aït Souka or Achain, ends with a walk that the property itself usually describes in its own booking information. Ten properties in our list publish that walk; for the rest nobody does, so we verify the stopping point with the traveller before the transfer runs rather than promising a door we cannot demonstrate.

What to check on your confirmation

Look for the hamlet name rather than the town name, and for any sentence about walking, steps or mules. If it says nothing at all, that is not a problem — it simply means the answer is unpublished, and it is exactly the thing our driver confirms with you before travel.

Not sure which hamlet you are in?

Search the name on your booking. If it is in our list we will show you the hamlet it really belongs to and what we have verified about reaching it.
