What does an accredited guide actually do?
Far more than route-finding:
- Reads conditions — snow, wind, ice, river levels — and decides whether today is the day.
- Sets the pace that gets a group to the refuge with something left for the morning.
- Watches for altitude symptoms before the person feeling them notices.
- Handles logistics: refuge beds, meals, mules, permissions, changes of plan.
- Translates, literally and culturally, in Amazigh villages along the route.
